The Joy of Baseball

It’s been a hell of a week so far.

Shall we recap?

  • Jose Bautista needs wrist surgery and is done for the year
  • Toronto lost yesterday to fall to 57 – 71, dead last in the AL East
  • Marcus Stroman, a first round pick, was suspended for 50-games for failing a PED test
  • Aaon Laffey and Henderson Alvarez both left with an injury on Monday after being hit with line drives.  Neither are expected to be serious, but still…
  • Staff ace and All-Star Ricky Romero lost his 11th straight decision

But then, when everything is going wrong, when things look bleaker than they ever have, when you’re trailing the big, bad New York Yankees with two outs in the ninth, something like this happens:

And just like that, faith in the game of baseball is restored.

And just like that, for one night in this god-awful, forbidden, unbelievably horrific season, it was fun to be a fan again.

In a nutshell, that is the joy of baseball.
